Warlander Devblog #3: Stakes and Vines
In this post we will be talking about one of the three routes you can go down within the Skill Tree, what new powers they can offer you and some of the cool ways that you can use them.
While our expeditionary crew is preparing for Reboot Develop Blue 2019 - expect to hear from them - we wanted to showcase some of the game features - the Skill Tree!
In this post, we will be talking about one of the three routes you can go down within the Skill Tree, what new powers they can offer you and some of the cool ways that you can use them.
Keep in mind though, the Skill Tree and the abilities are still a work in progress, and you will be informed about how they grow over time.
This route focuses more on giving you ranged abilities to help close gaps in combat. The parts of your body that were augmented by the Forests bark will twist and contort to create two types of powers - Vines that can grip your enemies and Stake-like projectiles that can shoot them down. These two are the main powers you unlock from this skill path and the other abilities you unlock serve to make them deadlier.
The Vine can be empowered to pick up heavier enemies as well as pull them closer to you or to rip their shields away, making it a lot easier for you to slice them to bits.
The Stake Caster can be enhanced to let you fire off multiple stakes, increasing the speed of fire for rapid shooting, making them explosive as well as making them fully ignore armour so you can be sure that when you fire out that projectile it will impale your prey.
Finally the best part. Both the Stake Caster and Vine can be used in various situations and combinations with other abilities to achieve devastatingly fun outcomes. With the Vine you can toss enemies off a ledge so you have less to worry about or you can pick up an explosive canister and throw it right in their face!
The stake projectiles can be combined with a sword throw for one of my favorite combos. I’ve found that rapid stake fire and an awesome sword throw make most of my troubles go away.
